Outdoor Entertainment and Living
Peakhurst outdoor living
This project was a design and construct venture for our team which has transformed the client’s backyard into an impressive outdoor living space. Functional, relaxing and welcoming, this space has become a central place of gathering for the family. The clients and their adult children are drawn together in this warm inviting place where they can be together for family dinners and weekend entertainment.
The construction process certainly had its challenges with the ground being ancient riverbed build up and swampy land. Conventional drilling and piers would not work in the ground conditions so we used screw piles down to 9.5m to reach the rock foundation. We raised the composite timber deck to sit 400mm off the natural ground level to allow for rain water run off to pass under and also allow better views through to the National Park nature reserve behind.
The area is light filled during the day with 4 generous Velux Skylights in the metal roof and at night, the sumptuous strip lighting creates filtered light for the whole area. The outdoor kitchen has a 5 burner Stainless Steel BBQ, bar fridge and sink with Caesarstone benchtop and splashback. The main focus is on the stone clad wall with a flued outdoor fireplace with the massive 85inch TV over the timber mantel piece. The timber for the mantel piece and side seat is recycled weathered Turpentine sleepers, sourced from the Cockatoo Island jetty and is over 100 years old. Timber V-jointed lining boards clad the insulated ceiling with a central fan for air circulation.
This new area extends the home lifestyle outdoors. It has created a welcoming, stress-free retreat for cooking, drinking and relaxing with comfortable amenities and beautiful surrounds.
